| Trillium Organics products are Phenoxyethanol FREE! Phenoxyethanol (also called ethylene glycol monophenyl ether): Preservative often touted as non-toxic in “organic and natural” products. Animal studies show it to be toxic, citing damaging effects on the brain and the nervous system at moderate concentrations. Additional studies have shown irritation of the eyes, skin, and respiratory tract. Environmental Protection Agency data sheets state, “chromosomal changes and genetic mutation effects in testing as well as testicular atrophy and reproductive damage in mice.” Phenoxyethanol breaks down to phenol and acetaldehyde, and acetaldehyde converts to acetate. Phenol can dis-able the immune system’s primary response mechanism. It is ironic that phenoxyethanol is used as an anti-bacterial in vaccines. Well, our formulator was tried of synthetic detergent soaps, and chemically preserved lotions, She sought to come up with a Better solution! Soap, or anything that bubbles, isolates and removes molecules of oil from the skin. Conventional wisdom would have us replace that oil with lotion. The trouble with that approach is that all lotions are preserved with something, the only two real options are parabens or alcohol.
