We dream of a world in which Organics and sustainable agriculture is the norm, and Genetically Modified Organisms have been outlawed, and conventional petrochemical farming is remembered as an ignorant mistake.  We dream of a world where children can safely eat any vegetable they are offered, without fear of sickness from pesticides and herbicides. A world in which taking a bath is a delightful, healthy, life affirming treat.  A world where the genius of Nature in collaboration with the brilliance of Humanity has awakened dignity, joy and respect for each, all and the planet.

OUR FORMULATION PHILOSOPHY
Our Formulation Philosophy is twofold, first we use exclusively ingredients which have an evolutionarily significant history of safe and beneficial use by humans.  second, we source Certified Organic and meticulously selected cold pressed oils, masterfully distilled and therapeutic grade essential oils and certified organic botanicals.  In the world where downright dangerous, cancerous, hormone interrupting, or endocrine disrupting ingredients are in so many modern conventional personal care products, we strive to offer an oasis of wellness and safety for you and your family.

OUR POSITION ON PRESERVATION
At Trillium, we exclusively include ingredients which are both beneficial to the skin and safe  for the health of the whole body.  Our products are made as an alternative to conventional personal care which is made from many ingredients which enhance the performance of the product to the detriment of the skin and body.  One example in particular of this is preservatives.  The modern expectation of personal care is to  last for upwards of seven years.   That kind of shelf life is only achieved through using broad spectrum anti microbials such as parabens ,  phenoxyethanol, or other alcohols.   Parabens have been linked to breast cancer, and phenoxyethanol and other alcohols ultimately dry the skin.  All anti-microbials, by design, will kill  micro-flora in the lotion and when applied, kill the micro-flora on the surface of the skin.  The acid mantle or outermost layer of  epidermis is host to a plethora of beneficial micro-flora which exist in balance and support  the healthy function of the skin. The use of preservatives disturbs that balance. 

At Trillium we make products aimed at restoring and maintaining healthy balanced skin function.    While all of our  products have a shelf life of no less than 3 years,  none of them include broad spectrum anti-microbials. How do we do that?  Instead of mixing up oils with water  (lotion) which readily bloom and adding a large dose of preservatives to kill bacteria,  we believe in blending inherently stable oil based formulations.  We them focus on educating people to use  them properly. Our oil based formulas, when applied to freshly washed skin, moisturize, nourish and protect the skin far better than any  SLS body wash,  synthetically preserved lotion or cream, or foam shaving cream.

THE OGmama
With the birth of my first child in 1994, and the death of my second grandmother from cancer, (they both died of breast cancer) I made a dedicated decision to be part of the solution… for health.  An entrepreneur, and social justice attorney, I found myself dreaming of a better way.  "I had a strong urge to do something personally to make things better, not just tell others how they should do it, but to do things greener, cleaner, better, myself.”  Unable to find personal care products for my babe that did not contain either cancerous or incomprehensible and untrustworthy ingredients.

Trillium Herbal Company was born as a maker of non-toxic solutions for cleansing, moisturizing and protecting  skin.  Trillium Organics later became one of the first companies to sign the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics Compact and has worked to bring safe, innovative, Organic personal care to people world wide, ever since.

From a long line of artists, activists and entrepreneurs, I spent most of my time as an attorney advocating for women’s rights in the workplace. Today, bringing Organic personal care to women and their families has become my activism for the rights of people everywhere to care for themselves in a safe manner while supporting the earth for generations to come.

Today,  I am the  mother of 3,  with the birth of my youngest,  I launched OGmama and OGbaby organic products from pregnancy through infancy.  The research that I read in the development of the products revealed how vitally important it is to protect infants from conception through chidlhood from cosmetic chemicals.  I am once again on a passionate crusade!

Trillium Herbal Company, and Trillium Organics have been on the leading edge of the organic skin care revolution since 1994.   In 1998, after four years of ground level product formulation and person to person product testing, Organic Body Polish became the first salt scrub to be formulated and packaged for home use at a national level. The "Body Polish Sensation" captured the imagination of health conscious people everywhere.  Every salt-scrub you have seen was birthed from the sensation Organic Body Polish caused, still unmatched in its delicate scrubbing action and deep emollient oil absorption.

OUR CERTIFICATIONS
The original mission: to make healthy products that even the most finicky Organic Mother can trust, in a way that respects the generations to come.  We recognise and accept our obligation to operate our business in a way that improves and gives back to the Earth that sustains us all.  The people of Trillium Organics are worthy of your trust. Indeed the ``Organic Consumers Association identified us as  a “Brand to Trust” but we do not ask you to simply “take our word for it “ on any of our claims to being green and adhering to sustainable practices.  We believe in third party verification to assure others that we are indeed doing what we say we are doing.  We are certified organic by OCIA, “leaping bunny”certified cruelty free by AVS,  certified woman owned by the Wisconsin department of commerce,  and certified sustainable by Green America.

Trillium has been an active member of Green America (greenamerica.org) since 2004.  Qualification for membership in Green America requires companies to perform rigorous internal audits of sustainable practices. We operate with goals that are set and decisions that are made in reference to the triple bottom line People, Planet and Prosperity- in that order.

Trillium is a Certified Organic processor under the USDA National Organic Program (www.ams.usda.gov/AMSv1.0/nop )  For 2011 we upgraded our formulations to include Organic Essential Oils which enabled us to display the USDA seal on the front panel of our labels.  Securing the USDA seal on the front of a product label is the very top designation for an organic product,  it requires that more than 95% of the ingredients be certified organic, and that the natural ingredients remaining  5 % or less, come from a short list of approved natural inputs which are additionally certified to be non GMO, non irradiated, and not grown with sewage sludge.  

Trillium was first Certified Organic in 2000.  The USDA subsequently refused to allow personal care products to be certified.  Once the USDA once again allowed personal care products into the National Organic Program,  in 2004, we have been certified by the Organic Crop Improvement Association (ocia.org) ever since.

We are signers, supporters and zealots for the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics. (safecosmetics.org)  The principals we have been guided by from our inception, Purity Wholeness and Balance, are mirrored in the Campaign’s approach, putting Health First on the triple bottom line;  Health for the People, Health for the Planet and Health for our Sustainable Endeavors.    We have our products listed on the Skin Deep website, which rates toxicity in cosmetics.  Trillium regularly shows up as the TOP RATED and one of the safest products in any of the categories.

Trillium was selected by the Organic Consumers Association (organicconsumers.org) as a “Company to Trust” in their 2010 Boycott/Buycott campaign.  They challenged all manufacturers of “so called organic” personal care products to disclose all of their ingredients and “Come Clean” about the safety and purity of them.  Trillium has been fully disclosing each and every ingredient on labels since 1994.

Leaping Bunny (leapingbunny.org) Our strict policy against using any ingredients which have been manufactured or developed using animal testing has qualified us to use the Leaping Bunny symbol.  

THE TRILLIUM SYMBOL
The Triskellion, and the Circle of Life. . .  The Trillium Symbol came through our creative process about one year after the company began.  I saw the spirals first in a photo of a temple to Brigid from Druidic Ireland.  The Triple spiral is sacred within Goddess lore.  It represents the three aspects of feminine life.  The spirals show our movement through time, as maiden, mother, and crone.  I added the outer circle to represent the eternal circle of life.

At Trillium we are dedicated equally to both the timely and the timeless   We are eternally focused on enhancing the experience of being in your own skin whether your find yourself a maiden, mother or crone; boy, man or elder.    We are also dedicated to the eternal circle of life.  We consider it our sacred privilege and duty to operate our enterprise in a beneficial, green, sustainable, health affirming manner.  We want our footprint on the earth to be light, and the mark we leave to be beautiful and positive.
